Ernest Tubb & The Texas
Troubadours Ernest Tubb was on Bluebird and then Decca Records from 1936 until 1975. This, the fourth Bear Family volume chronicling those years, takes the story from 1961 to April 1966. These were the years of the Nashville Sound, but you would hardly know it from Ernest Tubb’s recordings. He held fast to the unvarnished honky tonk sound with which he’d made his name. He also led one of the great bands of the era featuring Jack Drake, Leon Rhodes, Buddy Charleton, Jack Greene, and Cal Smith. Tubb’s Texas Troubadours not only worked on the road with him but participated in his recording sessions, ensuring that the records from this era were true to the leader’s musical credo. In addition to Tubb’s recordings from this era, which included such enduring favorites as Thanks A Lot, Waltz Across Texas, Pass The Booze, Mr. Jukebox, Do What You Do Do Well, and Til My Get Up And Go Has Got Up And Gone, this set also includes the classic Troubadours album, ‘Ernest Tubb Presents the Texas Troubadours,’ which features some of the tightest, swingin’est, and jazziest country instrumentals ever recorded. There are the earliest duets with LORETTA LYNN, in addition to all of Tubb’s albums from the period, including ‘Just Call Me Lonesome’, ‘Thanks A Lot,’ and ‘Family Bible.’ Fittingly, Ernest Tubb was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1965. He was the sixth member—and the third living member. The 177 recordings on 6 CDs in this set include 42 un-issued performances. There is also a book by Tubb’s biographer Ronnie Pugh, and detailed notes on the Troubadours and their recording sessions by Rich Kienzle. 6 CD Set Item #ETTT02 $150.00 |
